From March 16 to March 20, we carried out maintenance work on the earthquake observation stations installed by our center in Kumamoto and Miyazaki Prefectures.
Although we were at times hit by heavy rain and had to take extra care to keep the equipment dry, we successfully completed the maintenance work without any issues.
However, the impact of last year’s heavy rainfall disaster still remains, and there was an observation station that we were unable to access.
The FOMA communication service previously used at these observation stations is being discontinued. By replacing the equipment with LTE-compatible devices, data will continue to be transmitted to our center in real time. For some offline stations, it is necessary to visit the sites periodically, as in this case, to retrieve the seismic records stored in the data logging equipment.
